"Trend & Tradition" is the motto of Ringhotels, Germany’s
largest hotel consortium. Ringhotels prove that traditional hospitality and
modern marketing strategies are ideally compatible – in fact, they have been
proving it for over 30 years. Today, the Ringhotels name stands for hotels with
a typical regional character and consistently high standards of quality, managed
with a personal, individual touch.
The power of unity
"The Ringhotels story tells of the developmental history of hotel marketing
in Germany", says Elke Schade, managing director and member of the board.
"The basic aim is, and always has been, to unite individual strengths to
create a powerful unified representation of the brand name. Thus we support our
member hotels in profiling their properties and are able to offer our guests a
reliable portfolio of select establishments, in conjunction with modern
information and reservation services."
The history
The history of what is today a consortium of approximately 150 Ringhotels can be
traced back to 1973. Three purchasing co-operatives – also known as
"Purchasing Rings" - based in the federal states of Lower Saxony,
Baden-Wuerttemberg and Lower Bavaria united to form a hotel co-operation: thus
the name Ringhotels. The declared aim of this organisation was to constitute an
opposing pole to the international hotel chains, which were establishing
themselves on the German market. Even then, the group comprised more than 90
member properties.
Quality above all else
From the very beginning, the Ringhotels set about creating positive synergies,
which included central purchasing, brochure production, sales activities and
representation at trade fairs. During this time, the co-operation grew to become
Germany’s largest consortium of private, independent hotels. There has always
been great emphasis on the adherence to, and improvement of, high standards of
quality. And so in 1993 Ringhotels implemented a voluntary quality control
system with strict guidelines for existing and newly incorporated member
properties. "Qualitative over quantitative growth" - this is the motto
to this day.
What is expected of a Ringhotel
To be accepted into the Ringhotels ranks, a hotel has to meet a number of key
criteria. First, the establishment must meet internal corporate guidelines.
These are closely related to the official classification of the German Hotel and
Restaurant Association. Beyond that, the hotel should preferably be a private
establishment, which is individually managed. A kitchen ranging somewhere
between good and excellent and a capacity of approximately 60 rooms, serve to
add the final touches to what could be described as the picture of a typical
Ringhotel.
A comprehensive selection
The Ringhotels portfolio includes professional conference hotels as well as
family vacation hotels, extravagant ‘wellness’ oases and city hotels ideal
for urban accommodation. They are available at practically any location
throughout Germany. Many hotels proudly look back on a longstanding culinary
tradition. Thus it comes as no surprise that over a third of the Ringhotels
member establishments have received mention - many of them excellent - in
renowned hotel and restaurant guides.
